About Joanie

I live on an abandoned lobster pound on the coast in Friendship, Maine, where I am inspired by the view from my bedroom window as the light, colors and tide change constantly. I love color and have realized over the years that color makes me happy.

I started painting about 28 years ago and was educated at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts for much of that time. My preference is acrylics but I sometimes paint in oils or watercolors. Painting has given me a heightened appreciation of the amazing beauty of nature, and the coast of Maine is incredibly awe-inspiring.

I had my first solo show in 2017, have sold paintings and prints of my work and have won first-place awards in local competitions. Locally, I've shown my paintings at Salt Pond Gallery, Friendship, Maine; Arts in the Barn, Cushing, Maine; and River Arts, Damariscotta, Maine.

I was thrilled to have one of my watercolors shown at the Worcester Art Museum, June 10 to September 10, 2023. The museum exhibited exceptional examples from its internationally renowned collection of watercolors. "Watercolors Unboxed" featured paintings from the museum's collection, 1870 through the 1950s. As part of the exhibit, the museum also displayed watercolors from the past 20 years by 6 previous museum students and 4 instructors. These were hung in the adjoining community gallery space.
